Host Society
The 2008 Arctic Winter Games Host Society is a non-profit organization created by the City of Yellowknife to plan and execute the 2008 Arctic Winter Games. The Host Society Board of Directors, on which the Mayor of the City of Yellowknife serves as an ex-officio member, is made up of a dynamic cross-section of Yellowknife community volunteers. These committed, community-minded individuals will contribute their time and talents over the next two years as they plan and organize the Games.
Mission Statement
The 2008 AWG Host Society will host a celebration of sport and culture that epitomizes healthy living and builds community at all levels. The Games will be a positive, lasting experience for all stakeholders and participants, and will embody excellence in organization and execution.
Mandate
The 2008 Yellowknife Arctic Winter Games Host Society is mandated to organize stage, conduct, finance and promote the 2008 Arctic Winter Games from March 9th-March 15th, in Yellowknife, NWT on behalf of the City of Yellowknife and the Arctic Winter Games International Committee.
Goals
- To provide a healthy and safe environment for all participants
- To leave a legacy of community-building and civic pride for the City of Yellowknife
- To celebrate sport and culture in the North in a balance way that allows all to participate
- To create a positive, lasting and memorable experience with enduring relationships for all participants and stakeholders
- To be well-organized and well run, employing high standards of organization, coordination, and financial accountability and responsibility
