Sports
Over the course of the past 19 Games, 27 sports have made an appearance. The 19 sports taking place at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games, here in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories are: arctic sports, badminton, basketball, cross-country skiing, curling, Dene Games, dog mushing, figure skating, gymnastics, hockey, indoor soccer, ski biathlon, snowboarding, snowshoe biathlon, snowshoeing, speed skating, table tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
The majority of the sports currently in the Games are immediately recognizable throughout North America, Russia, and Greenland, and many people have at least a passing familiarity with their rules and strategies.
